Questions
Subject: Writing
Why should students enjoy writing?
Sometimes writing can be difficult. However, the more you practice, the better you will become. My hope is that students can eventually find a joy in writing. Thinking creatively can make even the most grueling essay interesting, and that is something I hope to impart on my students.
Subject: Literature
Why help students study literature?
As a masters graduate, this is a question I received more than once. I believe that literature has so much to offer students. It can open their eyes to a whole new way of thinking, or inspire them to think critically about the world around them. These skills are invaluable. I recognize that sometimes there can be barriers for students, including difficulty with comprehension and reading. I strive to assist my students to the best of my ability so that they too can find joy in reading.
Subject: English as a Second Language
Why help non-native English speakers improve their skills?
Helping non-native English speakers improve their verbal and written communication skills is about more than test scores, it's also about helping a student succeed. I acknowledge that in our growing global industry, knowing how to speak English is becoming invaluable, especially for those who wish to travel for work. My favorite thing about helping ESL students hone their skills is the difference it makes in their everyday lives.
