Why should I focus on writing as a means of communication? What is the importance?
To be frank, writing is absolutely essential in today's society, there's really no way around it. As the world becomes more and more electronic almost everything is communicated through written language. Although we have progressed from pencil and paper to type, the importance of writing remains the same. The world of business, for example, is almost all electronic these days. The vast majority of communication is done through email and it is imperative that you are able to form a message that gets to the point quickly and effectively while sounding professional and educated. You need to know how to sound knowledgeable about your area of expertise without coming across as pompous. You need to be eager and willing to help without sounding like an over achiever. It can be difficult as you will often walk a fine line in order to gain or retain clients. Advertising is another fabulous example of the power of words combined with imagery. Look at any website and you will see carefully written content strategically written to target customers within their desired demographic. Newsletters are written and distributed daily to entice new customers to spend money, or lure back previous clients. Words are power, if you know how to use them.
Why should I choose to learn English as opposed to any other language?
In all honesty, I believe that every language has importance as it portrays a country's culture and history in a way nothing else can. Therefore I would say that we should all strive to learn as many languages as possible! However, as it is nigh on impossible to learn every language we must pick and choose those of most importance to us. English is arguably the most international of languages and it dominates much of the professional world, not to mention it's vast outreach in entertainment (TV, Film, and Radio). To remain competitive in the professional market, it is often necessary to have at least some level of fluency or working knowledge in the English Language. International trade is at an all time high and with the surge of online businesses reaching well beyond their own borders a common language is necessary. Most businesses are turning to English to be this common language. In order to ensure you the professional career of your choice, I highly recommend learning English to give you an advantage over someone who may be equally qualified for a position but lacks in language knowledge.
Why is the study of English important in today's society?
As the business world continues to boom a working knowledge of the English language becomes increasingly important with each passing day. Although met with some controversy, English is quickly becoming an international language and is used daily in many countries world-wide. Many, if not most, companies will require a working knowledge in English for many positions in order to remain competitive in their market. Day by day the world becomes smaller and smaller. The tourism industry, for example, is growing continuously. People are now more interested in learning about other cultures and ways of life than ever before, and English is often the only common language. The Business world is now trading internationally, often as a main source of income. In order to speak with their clients overseas, English is a necessity. As with all languages, English can be difficult to learn. Therefore it is recommended that you gain exposure as early as possible. Although I understand it is not always an option, it is best to begin learning a foreign language from early childhood. By doing so, you will increase yours, or your child's fluency level by becoming familiar with the sounds, tonalities, patterns, and accents from an early age. The longer you wait, the more difficult any language education becomes!
