Why is it important to be aware of various religions?
Being aware of religions, cultures, and traditions is a part of being a citizen and a member of the community in which you live. The study of religion is deeply rooted in beautiful history, literature, music, dance, and poetry. By studying religion, one grasps a better understanding of core values, morality, belief, and non-human entities. Although one may not believe in a particular religion, there is the ability to perceive of religion from the eye of an artist, or a historian. There is much to be learned about where people come from, and the beauty that they bring to various, widespread communities. By studying religion, we understand what it means to be unified, connected, and appreciative of our fellow citizens.
If there is a God who is all good, why does evil exist?
The argument of God is a challenging philosophical debate that has been ongoing for decades. The belief stems from the fact that God - regardless of religion - has created peace and has intended that this world and that humans be good by nature. If this is the case, many argue, how is it possible for evil to still exist in a world that is supposed to be all good. The theory is that, just like infants, humans are born innocently and pure. Newborn babies up to the age of puberty maintain a certain amount of innocence that usually changes and adapts as they grow into adulthood. As we experience life itself, our level of obliviousness and our innocence towards certain subjects is changed. However, evil such as violence, hatred, taboo crimes, etc. stems from the fact that although we are born as innocent humans, we are given the freedom of choice. It is this freedom of choice that can be used to do good or to do bad.
Creative writing is a form of expression; how would you express yourself through writing?
Creative writing is the development of narrative fiction; it allows you to create a story that is unique, and explorative. When writing fiction, the trick is not to write as an author, but to write as a character. When we submerge ourselves into the act of writing, we become emotionally, physically, and mentally aware of our storyline. If we write freely, we realize that no one is judging us, and that our story can be personal or impersonal. Regardless, there is no judgement and we are able to explore genres and themes as we please. Creative writing as a form of expression is common as it can be used as a form of release in which we share our thoughts and feelings implicitly. We begin to realize that we can express our thoughts about obstacles or struggles that we face; the beauty of it all is that no one will ever relate our stories to our personal lives. We are free to write about ourselves under the pretense of a fictional character in a created world.
