What can be gained through studying literature?
Literature broadens the mind, deepens understanding, and communicates experiences. Studying literature enriches all other areas of study: history, philosophy, culture, science, art. Literature illustrates what it is to be human and increases the reader's grasp of the human condition and the spectrum of experiences. It is both a personal and communal art form, an expression of what the author, as an individual, knows and feels, as well as what the larger culture believes and values. Those with a good grasp of and appreciation for literature are more thoughtful, considerate, and well rounded individuals.
Why should English be studied?
Studying language, how it is used and how to use it well, is both important and rewarding. Language is the means by which people express their ideas, gain knowledge, and share experiences. Language can reveal what a culture values and knows. English is our shared language and contains a wealth of cultural knowledge, customs, history, and values. It is also the primary means through which we communicate with each other. Through studying English – its structure, composition, history, and art – your ability to understand those around you and to clearly communicate is increased. A study of English can be a fascinating exploration of human experience.
What is the value of dance?
Dance is a universal art form and means of self-expression. Through dance, individuals can find confidence and joy, community is formed and strengthened, and feelings and beliefs are communicated in powerful, tangible ways. By its very nature, dance can communicate the marvels that surround us, challenge our perceptions, and address our greatest desires. dance transcends the limited communication of words and transmits thoughts, feelings, truths, and observations of reality directly to the viewer’s mind. Dance provides full-bodied, creative means of communication that can transform both viewers and participants. It is a humanizing art, facilitating a sense of wholeness and well-being.
