Question:

If it takes one minute to walk one mile how many minutes does it take to walk 60miles?

Stephen T.

Speed is the rate at which you move from A to B in a given time. If you move in less time you are fast. If you move in more time you are slow. So, if it takes one minute to walk one mile then your speed is one mile a minute. The ratio is one mile to one minute. So 60miles to 60 minutes.

Question:

How can you tell if an object is moving?

Stephen T.

The short answer is, it moved from A to B. Long answer, it depends if the person observing the object is moving it. If the observer is stationary then you can tell it is moving. An important detail here is that the motion of the frame of reference determines if an object you are looking at is moving or not.

Question:

What makes an airplane fly?

Stephen T.

Short answer the wings. Long answer a combination of airfoils that are specifically shaped to accelerate the air moving on top compared to the air moving below. The faster air moving on top creates lower pressure and the slower air moving below has a higher pressure. This difference in pressure multiplied by the wing planform area creates a force. This force is called Lift and it acts perpendicular to the wing. If you apply a force to an object it will move in the direction of the applied force.
