Question:

What is a key skill for becoming a Chief Development Officer for a nonprofit? Do I need to go to college?

Answer:

There are some key skills to becoming an effective Chief Development Officer, including but not limited to, passion for the mission and grit. You have to tell prospective donors the organization's mission and practices, and if you're not passionate or personally committed, it will not convince anyone to give to the organization. A BA is not required, but many organizations expect a college-level education.
