Question:

Write the algebraic expression 2n + 5 as a verbal expression two different ways.

Ginger S.

Answer:

There are several different words that mean the same thing as addition. Some examples include, (plus, added to, increased by, and the sum of.) So we could write - 1. two times N plus 5, or 2. two times N is added to 5, or 3. two times N is increased by 5, or 4. The sum of two times N and 5 Any two of these examples will work as an answer to this problem. Notice when I used to sum of I had to use the word and to take the place of the plus sign.

Question:

Solve for x: 2x - 5 = 11

Ginger S.

Answer:

In order to solve for x you would first have to add 5 to both sides of the equal sign. Once you have completed that step move on to dividing the 2 on both sides of the equal sign in order to find what x equals. By doing so you find that x = 8.
