Why is proper and effective conjunction use critically important in writing?
Conjunctions serve to link elements in a sentence and clarify how they relate to one another. As such, proper conjunction use is vital in clearly communicating ideas and allowing one's writing to flow. Failing to use conjunctions may cause one's writing to sound awfully robotic and unengaging. For example: I went to the store AND bought a drink, BUT when I left, I realized I was no longer thirsty. Without conjunctions, the reader might become bored very quickly: I went to the store. I bought a drink. I left. I realized I was no longer thirsty.
Why is The Yellow Wallpaper considered a timeless work of feminist literature?
The author, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, was subjected to forced bed rest as a means of "curing" her depression. Gilman dramatizes this experience in The Yellow Wallpaper, in order to examine such socially relevant themes as female subordination and the madness that can result from creative suppression.
