Remember the phrase "PEMDAS" whenever solving multi-step equations like this to keep the correct order of operations. "Parentheses, Exponents, Multiply, Divide, Add, Subtract." By following this model, we'll see that our first operation will be to multiply 7 by 2/7 and then add it to 7 * 3x, as we know any time a number is lined up outside of a parentheses, we must multiply it. This will give us ((7 * 2)/7) simply giving us 2 as the 7s cancel themselves out diagonally in the numerator and denominator. Next, we add this to 7 *3x, which is going to equal 21x. Therefore, the left side of the equation has now become 2 + 21x. The right side of the equation is 35 after we multiply 7 and 5 together. Our new equation looks something like this: 2 + 21x = 35. Our next step is to subtract 2 from each side of the equation. This gives us 21x = 33 because we can only subtract whole numbers (without a variable next to them) directly from each other. In order to isolate the x, we will divide 21 by each side of the equation (as 21 is being multiplied by x). Our new equation will be x= 33/21, which we know can be reduced down to 11/7.
