Question:

What is the best way to pass TOEFL reading?

Elena S.
Answer:

1) Do not waste a lot of time on reading and translating the whole text. Instead pay attention to the title, headings, capital letters, underlining, italics, figures, graphs, tables etc. 2) Pay attention to the questions, make sure you understand all of them and follow instructions carefully. 3) Concentrate on looking for the answers in the text. 4) Attempt all questions even though you cannot find answers to some of them. Try to guess. You have nothing to loose. 5) The words you use must be taken from the reading text, so you must not change the form of the words in the text. 6) Check your spelling and look for the mistakes at the end. 7) Use the line numbering to find the answers in the text fast.

Question:

What is the difference between advise and advice?

Elena S.
Answer:

Both of them are correct, so it is a bit confusing. The difference is: - Advise is a verb, meaning to give advice. (Are you trying to advise me? = Are you trying to assist me?) - Advice is a noun, meaning a suggestion for a beneficial course of action. (I offered my advice. = I offered my assistance. )
