Blood is delivered back to the right side of the heart by the large veins called the superior and inferior vena cava. The right atrium empties the blood into the ventricle after passing through the tricuspid valve. The muscular right ventricle pumps the blood into your lungs through the pulmonary artery. After oxygenation occurs in the lungs, blood flows back to the heart via pulmonary veins unloading into the left atrium. The left atrium then flows blood through the bicuspid valve into the left ventricle. The left ventricle in the strongest part of the heart, pumping blood through the aortic valve to the entire body
