What does an essay require? Name the aspects of an essay that embody it....
An essay must always have a beginning, a middle, and an end. That said, an introduction and a conclusion are mandatory. Every essay persuading an idea must introduce its argument by what is called a thesis. Following thereafter are several paragraphs (typically three, unless otherwise instructed) bearing content such as resources and evidence as support for the argument. With each new idea that is raised as an idea to argue in support of the argument, a transitional sentence must be provided, leading onto the next paragraph. Finally, the concluding paragraph must tie the entire argument together, reinstating the thesis briefly before closing the entire essay.
How would you describe Arthur Dimmesdale in Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter"? Name some of the themes he explores and raises....
Arthur Dimmesdale is complex. He is a devoted man to religion as a minister yet his bastard child Pearl is proof that even he has been subject to temptation in the past. Yet, he has found it difficult to forgive himself - often fasting and practicing sermon to the people. He is effective in his way as an inspirational minister. However, it seems Dimmesdale is at war with himself with his struggle to avoid confessing to the people what he has done with Hester Pryne, his former lover and Pearl's mother. In his tale, Hawthorne explores the themes of sin, guilt, redemption and temptation. He raises issue to the idea that, indeed, not everyone is perfect and immune to temptation - even a Puritan minister such as Dimmesdale. However, in doing so, Hawthorne also brings attention to how callous and cruel society can be as a way of scrutinizing one's wrong.
