If I am not doing very well in school, how can I improve my performance on assignments and exams?
In terms of a strategy, one way that you can dramatically improve your level of achievement in school--on assignments and exams--is to focus on establishing and following a routine. As soon as you are aware of new skills or information you’ll need to master for class or an upcoming assignment or exam, record it in your schedule or calendar. A paper agenda book will suffice, as long as you’re already in the habit of checking it. However, if you have a computer and/or a smartphone, it will be most beneficial for you to immediately save an event or reminder item electronically for the upcoming assignment or exam, designating specific time slots you will commit to whatever it is that you need to learn, do or study. Set automatic reminders. Share the calendar item with others in your life who want to see you succeed as well, so that they’ll know about your time commitments, and they’ll be able to serve as an external source of both support and accountability. Then, follow through. Actually study or practice at the times you have established. If outside events get in the way, then adjust the designated time slots until you find ones that you’ll be able to stick with. In terms of your mindset, focus on truly learning the material that is being covered in class and on challenging yourself to advance past your previous knowledge and skill level level over time. A focus on progress is key. Don’t hide areas of potential improvement from yourself. Be honest with yourself about what you already know and what you don’t know, what you can do and what you can’t do, at this moment. And know this: Just because you don’t know something, right now, just because you can’t quite do something, right now, doesn’t mean you have to be in the same situation five minutes, five days, five months or five years from now. In most cases, you can improve on your current ability or even your performance or level of achievement in school. Deciding to be committed to improvement is one of the most important things you’ll ever do, and doing so is usually, perhaps surprisingly, very rewarding.
How can I improve my narrative essays?
One way to improve your narrative writing overall is to harness the power of vivid language. You can choose to show your readers, rather than simply tell them, an infinite assortment of things about the people, places and events that comprise your narratives. The choice to use varied, illuminating, colorful, precise and descriptive words can be applied, for instance, to the nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs that you use. As a writer, you have the power to draw your reader into your narrative world by appealing to the senses, by inviting your audience to hear, see, taste, smell and touch all that your story has to offer.
In communication studies, what is referred to by the term reflected appraisal?
The term reflected appraisal refers to how we develop the self-concept based on the way we believe others see us. Significant others--friends, family, peers and role models with whom we interact--often influence our self-concepts the most through this process. Moreover, our interactions with others through various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat have given rise to internet mediated reflected appraisal, where the potential for social comparison is particularly noteworthy.
