In the United States, we have a bicameral legislature which consists of the Senate and the House of Representatives. How many members are in each and how is the number of Senators and Representatives from each state decided?
There are 2 Senators from every state in America, no matter the size or population of the state. They are elected for 6-year terms. The House of Representatives has a total of 435 members which are based on population and they serve 2-year terms. Some states have only one Representative, such as Alaska, because the population of the state is relatively small. Depending on changes in the population of a state, the number of representatives may increase or decrease. [Although the number is set at 435 by law, there are 6 non-voting members of the House from U.S. territories (such as Puerto Rico and Washington D.C.) who may introduce legislation but are not allowed to vote.]
Using Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, what is the difference between those who are refugees or immigrants, and those who oppose the entry of these people to a country (assume that all refugees or immigrants are not a danger to the country they are entering or trying to enter)?
Those who are fleeing a country are typically doing so because their basic needs can't be met in their country. They are looking for Physiological Needs (food to eat and clean water to drink) or Safety needs, to protect themselves and their families from a threat in their home country. Individuals in the country to which these people are fleeing typically already have the basic needs of safety met, and are searching for Physiological or Self-Fulfillment Needs. They may feel that they are better than the refugees who don't belong in this country (Physiological Needs.)

Historically the United States has practiced "Isolationism" or "non-interventionism," including after World War I broke out in Europe. What event or events changed the Isolationist policy of America that resulted in America's involvement in World War I?
The sinking of the British ocean liner "Lusitania" by a German torpedo off of the coast of Ireland in 1915, killing over 100 American citizens. Germany claimed that the ship was carrying weapons, but America and Britain were trading partners and several American ships were sunk with the Germans apologizing to America and claiming it was a mistake. In 1917, Germany declared that they would resort to "unrestricted warfare" and would sink any ship surrounding Great Britain. A few days later the American ocean liner, the "Housatonic" was sunk, and America soon declared war on Germany.
