Research Paper Prompt Example For the United States, are state actors such as North Korea, China, and Russia a greater security concern than non-state actors? Why, or why not?
This prompt requires you to take a position. Which position you choose is less important than how you choose to defend your stance. For the sake of this example, let's say that we are arguing that state actors are a bigger security concern than non-state actors. First, we need to become knowledgeable about the subject we are writing about. Reading academic journals, textbooks, and reputable magazine and newspaper articles will help us to pinpoint key discussion points. As you read, look for three to four reasons/examples that defend your position and that you feel you can readily discuss. Second, create an outline for your paper. A great starting point is using an introduction paragraph, 3-4 body paragraphs, and conclusion paragraph style format for your final paper. When working on your outline, think of a solid thesis statement that clearly explains your stance and choose three to four arguments for your stance, with at least two to three supporting statements for each. A simplified start of my outline might look like what is below: Introduction 1.) Based on statistics taken from past history and current events, the United States should view state actors, such as North Korea, China, and Russia, as bigger threats than their non-state counter parts. Body Paragraphs 1.) Terrorist acts by non-state actors has only minority impacted the United States in recent years, especially in comparison to other acts of violence such as domestic gun violence. A.) Between 2001 and 2014, 3,412 American citizens died as the result of terrorism. During that same timeframe, 440,095 citizens died by firearms through homicides, suicides, accidents. Third, begin to craft your paper. Your introduction should be catchy, include your thesis statement, and possibly include a related quote, statistic, or analogy. Your body paragraphs should support your thesis and be backed by facts, quotations, and examples. Make good use of citations. Lastly, your conclusion should summarize what your reader has read and tie back into your originating thesis. Fourth, reread and edit your paper. I always suggest reading it at least once out loud, as it can be easy to miss certain grammatical and spelling errors when just glancing over your paper quickly. Pay attention to any formatting and citation instructions given to you by your teacher or professor. These commonly cause point deductions and are fairly easy to avoid.

Answer Choice C is early voting. Early voting expands the timeframe in which people can go vote, sometimes as much as several weeks. It is logical that this would increase voter turnout. Hence, answer C may also be correct. Answer Choice D is all of the above. In order for this choice to be correct, we must believe that answers A, B, and C are all correct. As we have looked at each of these answer choices individually, we know that they are all logical and fitting to the question being asked. Thus, we can choose answer D with confidence.

This question is asking us to look at the speed Mary drove per an hour, in which we have been given Mary's total time and distance. Because we are looking at a part of the trip versus the entire distance, this problem requires division. The equation should be set up as: Total Miles/Total Hours= Average Miles per an Hour By substituting in the numbers given to us in the problem, we get: 405/9=45 Therefore, the answer is that Mary averaged 45 miles per an hour during her drive.
