Question:

What do we mean by therapeutic communication?

Inactive
Kurosh N.

Therapeutic communication is an attempt to give the patient control over a conversation. it is a proven technique that reduces anxiety which is detrimental to one's physical health. We engage in therapeutic communication with our patients mainly by asking open-ended questions that are non-biased and do not insert our own ideas into the patient's self-expression. We are not "putting words in the patient's mouth and we are not suggesting anything in the patient's communication. We are open and active listeners who ask more follow-up questions, like, "You said this happened? How does that make you feel".

Question:

What is a buffer?

A buffer is a solution or mixture of a certain molecule consisting of it's... weak acid and conjugate base or it's weak base and conjugate acid. The buffer keeps the pH during a chemical reaction in a narrow range. Without a buffer, the acidity or alkalinity (a.k.a. basicity) would change significantly. This is really bad for areas that need a balance like the blood in your body, for example. This could kill a person. A buffer works by picking up stray protons or hydrogen ions (H+) or stray hydroxide ions (-OH) from being set free and causing damage.

Question:

How do you solve 2x + 6 = 50 for x?

An algebra euqtaion is like a sentence. X stands for a number we don't know. So we call it a 'variable'. X can be a number of anything. Let's just say x is a number of batteries, for example. We can translate 2x + 6 = 50 as: What number of batteries (or x) do we need to double (as in 2x), and add 6 more batteries to come up with 50 batteries total? We answer the sentence by getting x alone by itself on one side of the equal sign. Let's move the number on the x side of the equal sign furthest away from x first. It is easier to move this number since its not as closely attached to x. the number her is 6. How do we move it? We are adding 6 on one side of the equation, so let's subtract 6 from BOTH SIDES of the equation, that way we can keep the balance that an equal sign stands for... 2x + 6 - 6 = 50 - 6 2x + 0 = 44 so 2x = 44 What number of batteries do we need to double to get 44 batteries? Now, let's lose the 2. in 2x = 44 we are multiplying x by 2 or in other words doubling the number of batteries. So let's divide BOTH SIDES of the equal sign by 2 to keep the balance. 2x / 2 = 44 / 2 The coefficient or, in other words, number in front of x can be divided by 2 to get 1. 44 batteries divided by 2 or cut in half is 22. 1x = 22 1 times any number (in this case x) is that number (x). So 1x means the same thing as x. x = 22 The answer is We need 22 batteries. Or x = 22 batteries.
