I am a current third-year UCSB English major student born and raised in Santa Barbara, California. I have 4 years of volunteer and professional experience in tutoring and afterschool education with primary and secondary grade students. SBUSD AOK program leaders are responsible for lesson planning, curriculum development, and academic mentoring. Leaders are trained every five weeks for a new STEAM or literacy lesson taught to student groups grades 1-6. Leaders are also responsible for providing individualized and group homework help to a classroom size of 20 students.

The Partners in Education Internship is a program that employs young adults in the community and teaches them how to be an active professional in the working world. Partners in Education pays all interns through the first seven weeks of job readiness training before they interview for an 80 hour paid internship with an external firm of an intern's career interest. In my case, I interned with the AOK after-school program at Adams Elementary where I worked with AOK staff to coordinate lessons and outdoor activities and tutor kids in grades 1-6.
