About Nicole

About Nicole
A law student at Durham University, I am an effective problem solver, and am excellent at explaining difficult concepts in a logical and concise way. My main strength is developing clear communication skills, whether that be academically through an essay or exam, or personally through college applications or interviews. As a law student with a passion for politics, I am also well equipped to tutor either of these subjects.

Teaching Experience

Teaching Experience
I worked with two friends to design the first student created course at my high school. The course’s purpose is for students to learn how universal, cultural, and personal narratives shape our identities. In addition, the course will deconstruct their worldview and reconstruct it through empowering students to envision their role in creating pro social narratives for the future. Whilst developing this course I ran test lessons with year 11 students to discover which topics and teaching methods they responded best to.

Work Experience
The Laidlaw Undergraduate Research and Leadership Scholarship, Undergraduate Researcher
2019 - 2019
This scholarship grants £6,000 to enable ambitious students to pursue research in their self directed topics. The target of Laidlaw is to create a diverse international network of leaders with the vision to fulfil their true potential throughout their careers. My research topic revolves around the use of sexual violence as a war tactic and the justice system in a post-war Sharia law government. It will critically analyse the link between Sudan's history, legislation and current political changes.
Stephenson Harwood LLP, Stephenson Harwood Law Firm Summer Studentship
2018 - 2018
Work shadowed under corporate partner Jane Ng to learn about the workings of the corporate department at a firm. During this time I researched HK ordinances and preceding cases to apply to client situations. I also produced reports regarding HK financial technology regulations and presented them at a department meeting. In addition, I attended conference calls and did document review to find specific case related information.
Mayer Brown LLP, Mayer Brown Law Firm Summer Studentship
2018 - 2018
In this role I was required to write reports on the bankruptcy law updates in the Asia Pacific region. This required me to compile news about recent bankruptcy issues, read recently released guidance letters from the HKEx and articles that firms had written about policy change. I took notes on the annual financial reports of our client companies and worked with the trainee to create a report for the partner.
CLSA Capital Markets and Investment Group, CLSA Investor’s Forum Co-coordinator
2018 - 2018
Co-coordinated the 25th CLSA Investor’s Forum that presented talks by world leaders, business executives, and world renowned professors about international politics and economics to high profile investors. My role at the forum was to co-manage a main track room, help out in the grand ballroom, and coordinate the evening meetings between the delegates.
MeeOpp, MeeOpp Startup Summer Job
2017 - 2017
Recruited users to expand the network of a tutoring startup app, where I learned cold/warm calling, finalising contracts, and direct selling. To recruit sales ambassadors, I went through the process of pitching, personalising contracts, getting them signed, and managed a team as a supervisor.
The Women's Foundation Hong Kong, The Women's Foundation Hong Kong Summer Internship
2017 - 2017
During my time there I learnt about the structural details of the programme. This included researching policies that aid low income families and reading the testimonies of those who had completed the programme. I focused on drawing connections between the activities or policies that resulted in positive testimonies. My conclusions were then structured into a draft of the 2016-17 interim evaluation report. Additionally, I drafted the CEO board meeting report.
