What is Broken Windows Theory?
Broken Windows Theory is the sociological theory that controlling smaller and less serious crimes leads to a reduction of more serious crime such as assault, rape, etc. This theory was most famously put to the test by New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani who made harsher penalties for crimes, such as public urination and littering. The measures were controversial as critics said the new measures adversely hurt people of color, while proponents cited statistics in New York City that saw a reduction of all crimes across the board.
What is Soft Power in International Relations?
Soft Power is the diplomatic, economic, and cultural influences that a country possesses. These influences are not of a militaristic nature. When the United States and the European Union sanctioned Russia for their involvement in Crimea, this is an example of Soft Power.

The Ford "Model T" revolutionized transportation and made travel efficient. The Wright Brothers invented air travel, which would lead to a full blown commercial airline industry, connecting continents. The English Language began to become to the language of global business and trade, with many languages having to adopt thousands of new words borrowed from English just to keep up. The 20th Century was transformed by American innovation and influence.
