Everybody is talking about the 2° target when it comes to climate change. 2°C is not that much. Why do 2° still matter in this context?
The 2° target refers to a rise of the global mean temperature by 2°C. While this may not seem a lot, the distribution of the new temperature pattern is not the same everywhere. For instance, the land masses would heat up a lot more than the oceans. Also, a rise in the global mean temperature by 2 degrees means that a lot of additional energy has entered the Earth's climate system in the form of additional heat. This amount of additional energy also causes more extreme weather events, like hurricanes, floods, or droughts. Often, areas that are already being affected by droughts would suffer from even more droughts, and areas prone to hurricanes will experience more and stronger hurricanes. 2° may not seem that much, but results from a lot of additional energy that has a strong impact on the Earth.
