Write a 3 page essay arguing whether children should be allowed to play graphic video games.
Before you begin writing, it is important to establish a formatted guide to your essay. First begin with the thesis. For example, "Children should not be able to play graphic video games because---." Next, it is important to build definitive reasons to support your thesis, which you will then use several examples per to bolster your claims. Ultimately these explanations will later become the body paragraphs of your paper. Find and use at least three strong statements to defend your thesis, and each will be the focus of each body paragraph respectively. Next, research a minimum of two trusted sources per body paragraph that will properly defend each assertion. Next, develop a counterargument to your thesis; the likely position of the other side of the argument. For example, "Children should be able to play graph video games because popular television programs have already exposed these children to such harmful, graphic elements." Now in this body paragraph, the goal is to actually refute this initial reasoning with specific examples. Thus, you present a potential counterargument to your central argument, your thesis, and then refute it directly with specific examples, which later only further strengthens your overall argument. Lastly, provide a conclusion, briefly summarizing what you have argued throughout your essay, and then your essay will be complete.
Which acid is the strongest? Rank these acids in order of increasing pKa. a) C2H5Cl b) C2H4Cl2 c) C2H5OH
First, to answer this question you need to understand that pKa is a measure of acid strength, the lower the pKa, the stronger the acid. Although the pKa values were not provided, based off of the differing chemical formulas, we can make a general prediction on what compound would have the lowest pKa and so be the strongest acid. In examining the three compounds, option B is the strongest acid, and so has the lowest pKa, because of the large inductive effect brought upon by its two chlorines. Although option a) also is under the inductive effect, option b) has more chlorines, and so will be the stronger acid. Thus, the order of acids in increasing pKa is: b, a, c.
Farmer Joe purchased what he believes to be a weed killer. This special chemical, Liquid X, punctures and degrades peptidoglycan specifically. If he were to spray Liquid X onto a patch of weeds, will these plants be affected? If not, what is Liquid X better used for?
First, it is important to identify the compound that Liquid X targets: peptidoglycan. Peptidoglycan is the main component of a bacteria's cell wall, while cellulose is the main component of a plant's cell wall. Thus Liquid X theoretically should have no effect on the plant cells themselves, however, Liquid X would be better suited for targeting and killing bacteria cells.
