After earning a BS in Environmental Science with a Chemistry minor, I worked in a Smithsonian Institute marine biology lab. I then began teaching biology at the high school level to help others better understand our ecosystems and planet. I am hoping to tutor students in biology and/or environmental science, but am open to tutoring English and ESL as well.
I taught biology and earth science (and other sciences as needed) in a US high school; I moved to Spain and taught ESL in the public schools there, tutored both English and environmental science (in English), and earned my Master's in Teaching. I concurrently began teaching English online with VIPKID and continue teaching online each morning.
VIPKID International, Online English Teacher/Tutor
2017 - Present
Tutoring young students 6-15 (mostly 9-12) online for half-hour English classes; lessons are provided by the company and students read, write, and discuss the lesson subject with the teacher. Students range from very basic English knowledge (letter names and sounds, CVC phonics) up to being capable of reading short stories and discussing the basics of wide ranging age appropriate topics such as the solar system, insects, technology and communication, and many others.
RFK Children's Action Corps, Biology Teacher
2016 - 2016
Lead classroom teacher of high school biology and Earth science, designed lesson plans, recorded student IEPs, managed classroom. Working out innovative lessons to engage disaffected students in topics they felt were unimportant to their lives was a challenge that I met head on. Building a rapport with these students was critical to managing negative behavior as well as facilitating learning.
