Becky is a Master's-educated pediatric genetic counselor who loves science, literature, math, and music. In high school, Becky scored a 36 on her ACT, was a National Merit Scholar semifinalist, scored 5's on her AP BC Calculus, AP Literature, AP Language exams and a 4 on her AP Biology exam. During her Master's program at Indiana University, Becky gave multiple lecture-style educational presentations to her classmates and professors, as well as physicians and genetic counselors. Topics included the genetics of Fragile X syndrome, multiple journal club presentations, education regarding new advances in polygenic risk scores, and a TED-style talk about the necessity for ethnic diversity in genetic testing databases. As a genetic counselor, Becky spends up to an hour with each patient, educating them about the results of their genetic testing - which is a complex topic that needs someone skilled in simplifying material - as well as counseling them on the emotional and lifestyle impacts of the diagnosis. She is also responsible for ordering and interpreting genetic tests for pediatric patients.
