How do I best revise a draft of a paper?
After reading through the draft together, we can start by reviewing how strong and successful your topic sentences are for each paragraph. We would need to determine if they are helping to prove your thesis. If they are not doing this then we would make changes. Simultaneously, we may need to refine/strengthen the thesis of your paper as each point in your paper is sharpened and revised.
How can I get a deeper understanding of a particular character in order to write about him or her?
To arrive at a deeper understanding of a character it may be helpful to consider the various aspects of the character such as his/her looks, speech, thoughts, actions, and effect of other characters in the story. The author has made deliberate choices regarding all these aspects in order to construct the character. As the reader who is trying to come to a richer understanding of the character (and ultimately the story) it is critical to consider the author's choices and analyze how these choices make meaning. I can help you do this.
How do I get started writing a paper on a topic that I have so many different thoughts about?
Getting started on writing on a topic that you are enthusiastic about depends on how you prefer to put your thoughts in words. You may like to do some "free writing" that will allow your thoughts to flow. You may like to write down ideas in outline form, using short, precise phrases in bullet points. Whichever way you like to get started, I will help you organize your thoughts and finalize an outline for your paper that can serve as a solid road map to your writing.
