Question:

What are some of the barriers that people encounter that cause them to be in contact with the criminal justice system?

Answer:

Some of the barriers include socioeconomic status, addictions and mental illness. These three barriers can all be interrelated as they do overlap. Each barrier creates a situation where an individual could possibly come in contact with the criminal justice system. Crime does not happen to those impoverished exclusively, however, a person with lower economic status will more than likely come in contact than those with higher economic status.
