Why is fiber so important to have in our diet?
Fiber plays many important roles in our health! First of all, insoluble fiber cannot be broken down by the body so it helps other foods to move through our body more easily. Soluble fibers, those that are broken down in the body, help to lower our cholesterol. It also helps to make stool pass more easily. Fiber has many health benefits!

What is diabetic ketoacidosis and how is it treated in a clinical setting?
Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a an acute acidosis that most frequently takes place in type I diabetics. It is caused by a prolonged amount of time with high blood glucose, or high blood sugar. Type I diabetics cannot produce their own insulin therefore if they do not take insulin their blood sugar eventually gets high enough to cause DKA. It is treated primarily with intravenous insulin and fluids. Sometimes other supplemental treatment like intravenous electrolytes are also necessary.
