What is authority control and what is it used for?
Authority control means establishing a recognized form for an entity name and using that form whenever the name is needed as an access point in a bibliographic record. These names are tools used by librarians to achieve consistency among bibliographic records and provide a linking framework for related names and subjects in a catalog -- thus organizing the catalog to assist users in finding resources.

In Great Britain, the Arts & Crafts Movement was conceived in response to the Industrial Revolution's perceived influence on the arts. What was that influence and how did Arts & Crafts adherents act to counter it?
In late 19th century Britain, the Industrial Revolution had caused what some artists and designers felt was a decline in standards associated with machinery and factory production. Manufactured goods of the time were believed to be overly ornate and devoid of consideration for the inherent qualities of the materials used. Individuals like designer William Morris and architect Augustus Pugin sought to develop a theory of design that emphasized function before ornamentation. The result was an emphasis on simplicity and economy of design and a return to traditional artisan techniques.
