These histological terms are used to define the changes happening in a cell pre- cancerous conditions. Anaplasia- When the cells fail to differentiate into mature cells or cells showing poor cellular differentiation. Metaplasia: When a cell differentiates into a cell type that is not normal or native for that organ. Question:

Q1. What do you understand by periodontitis? Q2. What are the different types of diabetes mellitus?

Inactive
Swati G.
Answer:

A1. Periodontitis can be understood by splitting the word into: 'Peri', 'odont' and 'itis'. Perio comes from the word peri which means around, odont means teeth and itis means inflammation. So, periodontitis means inflammation of the structures surrounding the teeth. A2. Diabetes mellitus is a part of metabolic syndrome which can be categorized into DM1 and DM2. DM1 results from the non production of insulin. As insulin is produced by beta cells of pancreas, no production would imply that beta cells are destroyed or not present. DM2 results from the decreased sensitivity of the tissues and cells to respond to insulin. This means that cells of the pancreas are fully functional and producing insulin but due to certain causes, the other cells of the body are not able to utilize it. All these factors together result in increased glucose levels in the body causing hyperglycemia and eventually diabetes mellitus.
