How would you go about writing a piece intended for an audience you disagree with?
No one has nothing in common with another person. Humanity, as well as the adversity it comes with, is something we all share. So as I write pieces I know others might react negatively to I try to keep the things I have in common with those people at the front of my mind. As hard as it might be to believe, sometimes when people react negatively they have good reason to. I also try to think of certain things I can honestly say that my audience will agree with. Even when trying to convince someone to completely change their position, a good writer should still be prepared to- and actively try to- compromise.
What can people in modern times gain from reading literature written decades or even centuries ago?
Certain problems and emotions have existed throughout human history. By reading the works of people who experienced these problems in different circumstances and in different times, we can gain valuable new perspectives we might not otherwise have acquired by reading only contemporary works. History repeats itself- but our reactions need not.
Why is a mastery of the English language crucial regardless of one's intended career path?
Language is an essential element of human innovation and expression. It lays the groundwork of the world's societies. We as human beings respect those who are able to concisely and easily relay information to us. Therefore it follows that in a primarily English-speaking society those individuals who are capable of effective and professional communication will naturally do better in their respective fields, whatever they may be, than those individuals who are less well-versed.
