Question:

Define the Columbian Exchange, and discuss its implications for Native American, African and European populations.

Brandis R.
Answer:

The Columbian Exchange was the widespread transfer of plants, animals, culture, human populations, technology, diseases, and ideas between the Americas, West Africa, and Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries. The positive effects came in the way of new crops, technologies, animal populations, and other products improving the health and lives of inhabitants in both the Old and New Worlds. The negative impacts came in the way of diseases that decimated Native Populations of the Americas, enslavement of Africans, and infestations of nuisance (vermin, insect, and microbial) populations around the world.
