Question:

How do I write a strong thesis statement?

Answer:

A strong thesis accomplishes a couple of things. One, it identifies and issue or problem. Two, it strongly expresses your stance on the issue. Be sure to identify a problem that you are interested in and that you can support with factual pieces of evidence. One of the best things to do before writing your thesis statement is to find unbiased reference sources that help you get your head around a topic.

Question:

Does the 1st Amendment protect all forms of speech? Can anybody say anything they want, wherever they want, to whomever they want?

Answer:

The 1st Amendment to the Constitution protects speech, but some speech falls outside the realm of complete protection. One interesting example is speech by public school students. In a 7-2 opinion in 1969, the Supreme Court ruled that students do not “shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate.” In other opinions, (ex. Morse v. Frederick, 2007) the Court ruled that school administration could sensor student speech that advocated or celebrated the use of illegal drugs.
