Using best practices for obtaining efficient study skills can involve many different tactics. Each person is unique in how they prefer to study. However there are some tried and true tactics that ALL students should attempt to master. Please list 2 common study tactics that have been proven to work well time and again. Please explain one way to accomplish each tactic
Studying preferences can be individualized but there a few common tactics that all students should learn. The first tactic is time management, All students need to learn to manage their lives to enable them to have enough time in their day to devote to some studying. One way that students can do this is set aside a specific time each day to devote to studying. Even if it is just one hour; set that same hour aside each day and stick to it as much as possible. Another tactic is to get organized. Studying in a messy space with many distractions and not enough room to place books, needed devices and writing implements can be frustrating and waste time. Keeping a dedicated area that is organized and ready when the student is can increase study time and limit distractions that can take away from the task at hand.
The Cognitive Approach to Learning is defined by an active engagement in an activity that leads to sustained, constructive, long-lasting and in most cases, permanent knowledge. Please give two examples of activities that involve Cognitive Learning and share what permanent knowledge they can lead to.
Cognitive Learning involves the idea of "doing"; doing something in order to learn it to sustain it in memory. One example of Cognitive Learning is learning to drive a car. It involves higher-order processes as well as reflexes that become trained to respond a certain way in certain situations. The permanent knowledge gained from learning to drive is sustained though a lifetime and enables the learner to be mobile and leads to efficiently completing tasks such as shopping, working and going to school. Another example is making a judgement about a certain situation we may encounter. We learn to use past experience to apply it to a current situation in order to determine likely outcomes. If an anticipated outcome is not provided from past experience, a new learning will imprint and new information will be added to existing knowledge. This enables the learner to continue to grow in knowledge and understand different situations that they encounter in life.
