Subject: Writing

Question:

Every time I receive a paper back from a teacher there are weird red "P"s all over it. What are those?

Answer:

Sometimes when teachers are grading papers, even if those papers are meant to assess your knowledge of world history or French verbs, they get distracted by grammatical mistakes. Sometimes they even use editor's marks to show you which mistakes they'd like you to correct. It's possible to learn to use those marks on your own papers before you turn them in, though. I guarantee your teachers will appreciate it.

Answer:

The key to success in writing research papers is creating a long term plan. Breaking down the huge task into multiple, actionable steps that fit into your daily to-do list saves a lot of time and prevents last minute stress.

Question:

How do you differentiate instruction in the classroom?

Answer:

To differentiate instruction effectively, you need to know exactly where your students are and precisely what you want them to learn. For example, a typical first grade learning goal might be to comprehend age appropriate text. When you differentiate instruction for comprehension, you need to narrow your focus on one aspect of comprehension, such as being able to summarize a story they've read. Then you'll need to choose the appropriate story for each student; some might need a third grade level short story, others might need a story that is told in pictures only.
