What role does the library and librarians play in our day and age of rapid technology growth?
There are those who would say that libraries and librarians are becoming obsolete. As I librarian I would argue that they are becoming more essential. The proliferation of information through the internet and social media means that people are bombarded with information and don't necessarily know how to evaluate it. Librarians want to provide access to quality information and help people to become thoughtful users and creators of information themselves. Libraries are not just a place people can go to check out books, they can also attend a coding workshop, check out a pass for entrance into National Parks, or just meet with others to work on a presentation. Libraries and librarians provide a safe haven for the community and the freedom to access information.
Why should we read the classics?
It is interesting to note that the novels we deem classics are from different time periods, places, and written by both male and female authors. There is a richness in the variety of experiences we can encounter when we include the classics in our repertoire. We can delve into the social nuances of Jane Austen's 18th century world, or learn of the injustices of the poor working class in Dickens' well known novels.
What is the importance of grammar in a professional setting?
Proper grammar is imperative to presenting oneself as poised and well-spoken. Whether giving a presentation to administration or sending an email to a coworker, good grammar can set the tone and help to get one's point across clearly and succinctly. Grammar is the cornerstone of professional communication.
