1) Since we first need to solve for x, let's subtract the 2 from all sides. Remember that in Algebra, we have to make sure we keep balance, so to eliminate 2 from the middle part of the equation, we have to subtract is from all tree parts of the equation. I'm going to put -2 in parenthesis so we will remember that it is something we're working on right now. -11(-2)≥-3x+2(-2)>-20(-2) we get -13≥ -3x+0>-22. Remember that positive 2, take away or minus 2 is 0, and anything plus 0 is itself, also note that we do not take away 2 from -3x because they are a coefficient of -3 and variable x, and are not "like numbers" to -11, +2, and -20 which are constants. 2) We have to get x alone so we have to disconnect it from the coefficient of -3, the way we do it is by dividing. Remember that -3x is actually -3*x, we have to do the oposite of multiplication, which is division. And, to keep balance, we have to divide all parts of the equation by -3. [-13]/(-3) ≥ [-3x]/(-3) > [-22]/(-3), I added brackets to remember to treat them as a unit. [-13]/(-3) is 13/3, [-3x]/(-3 ) is x because the negatives cancel out and 3 parts of 3 makes a whole, and [-22]/(-3) is 22/3. VERY IMPORTANT: since we divided by a negative number, we have to flip the signs, out ≥ becomes ≤ and out > becomes < . Our solution is 13/3≤x<22/3. We have solved the equation. 3) To address other arts of the question: We need to graph the solution set.
