Question:

Why don’t people change behaviors despite the knowledge that they are harmful?

Answer:

In today’s’ society we live in a world that moves at an extremely fast pace where there is fast lanes, fast food, and fast service. We are in a school of thought of immediate gratification despite long term detriments. As a result, the motivation needed for people to change repetitive behaviors despite the knowledge that they are harmful is minimal. Currently, there are no broad-based methods of public health education that yields immediate results. Consequently, it is difficult to change behaviors. To increase the chances that a person will change health behaviors, public health professionals would have to think unconventionally and begin addressing not only environmental determinants but also social determinants that influence a person’s behavior. Additionally, to have an effective change, there may be a need for the incorporation of theory in evidence-based health promotion practice. We are now in the era of social media where Google has now replaced the knowledge of medical professionals. With an increase of evidence-based health promotion practice, people may be more inclined to digest the facts more appropriately.

Question:

How will professional development inspire profound thinking?

Answer:

The Law of Lid is a great principle to help people understand the value of professional development. If you can get a handle on this law, you will see the incredible impact of leadership in every aspect of life. The Law of the Lid stated that leadership ability is the lid that determines a person’s level of effectiveness. The lower an individual’s ability to lead, the lower the lid on his potential. The higher the individual’s ability to lead, the higher the lid on his potential. To give you an example, if your leadership rates an 8, then your effectiveness can never be greater than a 7. If your leadership is only a 4, then your effectiveness will be no higher than a 3. Your leadership ability—for better or for worse—always determines your effectiveness and the potential impact of your organization. Progressional development is the tool to maximize one's thinking capacity to raise this lid.

Answer:

The World Health Organization (WHO) describes the environment with respect to human health as the biological, physical, and chemical external factors and surroundings to a human being. This interaction between the environment and human health is critical for sustainable living, where we are in a place to protect our natural environment, human, and ecological health. The maintenance of our environment spans from the impact of air and water pollution, climate change and the prevalence of infectious diseases. Because there is a direct relationship between the environment and overall health, illness, and mortality creating and maintaining a healthy environment helps promote a longer and better quality of life.
