To what extent is an individual shaped by society?
While the research clearly shows that genetics plays a huge role in human development, the reality is that our environment has the biggest influence on an individual. This is well-known with factors such as family, schools, religious institutions, and the internet. Someone who is born and raised with a family that listened to country music for generations will most likely be influenced by country music themselves. It's no surprise, just sociological science.
What is intelligence (and why should we care)?
Intelligence is an abstract concept that humans have discovered to interpret, understand, and utilize the world around them. The more intelligent one becomes, the more comprehensive the world is. However, intelligence not only comes in the form of knowledge. It can also display itself in terms of reactions. For instance, the Venus Fly-Trap does not have a central nervous system. Yet, it responds to outside stimuli (such as flies), and traps them in its mouth for food. Computers are intelligent, plants are intelligent, and humans have intelligence to make sense of their surroundings.
Subject: Criminal Justice
What is a crime?
The usual answer somebody would give to this question is "a violation of the law." While this may be true, one needs to consider the depth of what a crime actually is. To be clear, a crime in one country might be admissible in another. That being said, strictly adhering to the strict dictionary definition of what crimes are is not wise. Crimes are acts that not only violate the law, but cause harm to an individual and/or their property.
