Question:

What effect did the discovery of the Potosi silver mine have on the Chinese economy during the period between 1500 and 1800 CE?

Answer:

The dramatic rise in the liquid silver currency which Spain now had access to after the discovery of and mining/minting of silver from the Potosi mine caused a flood in silver as currency in China. Once the Ming Chinese government declared silver was the only form of currency (no more barter) for the peasants to use to pay their taxes, it drove up demand for silver across China. Further unregulated fiscal practices soon led to rampant inflation across China and weakened its hold on the world power stage.
