Discuss some threats to wetland ecosystems, particularly those located in Louisiana.
Wetlands, in general, are prone to many man made and natural threats. Issues such as subsidence, sea level rise and invasion by humans are of great detriment to wetlands. Specifically in Louisiana, the oil and gas industry has cut many pathways through the wetlands to reach the Gulf of Mexico allowing for the intrusion of salt water and also greatly reducing the amount of wetland square footage. The wetlands of Louisiana also suffer from the presence of nurtia which destroy acres and acres of wetlands.
Photosynthesis and cellular respiration are vitally important cellular processes that occur in all living cells. Other than producing cellular energy, name some other reasons why cellular respiration and photosynthesis are important to living beings (think big picture).
Anaerobic respiration, the process cells can complete when oxygen is not present, can be used to produce many food and drink products. Fermented drinks, alcohol, bread and cheese all use fermentation. Additionally photosynthesis can be vital to fighting global warming. The process of photosynthesis requires the consumption of carbon dioxide. Consequently, the more photosynthetic organisms present the less carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, released into the atmosphere.
Describe the similarities and difference between the three different types of human muscle tissue (skeletal, smooth and cardiac).
Skeletal muscle is mainly found in association with the skeletal system, it's cells are long and striated and skeletal muscle is responsible for voluntary muscle movements. Smooth muscle can be found associated with the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems, it's cells have a fusiform shape and it is associated with involuntary movements. Cardiac muscle is located in the heart. It's cells are small than skeletal but also have striations. The junction between myocytes are called intercalated discs and are specific to cardiac muscle tissue. And cardiac muscle tissue is responsible for involuntary movements.
