How do you develop a theme statement?
The first step in developing a theme statement is to determine the subject of the story or piece of literature. Once this has been determined, decide what the author is trying to say about the subject. For example the story could be about a knight who had to risk his life to rescue the love of his life from great peril. The story, at its core, would be about love. The author is saying that taking risks for love is a good thing. Therefore, your theme statement could be love is worth the risk.
