Where do competitive inhibitors bind? What effect does this have to km?
The competitive inhibitors bind to the enzyme. The km is increased because you need a higher substrate concentration to compete with the inhibitor for the enzyme binding site.
Why is the phospholipid bilayer semipermeable? What does the cell allow to pass freely?
The phospholipid bilayer is semipermeable because it allows the cell to be selective about what is able to enter. Because the membrane is semipermeable it allows the cell to keep its contents separate from the external environment. The cells allow molecules that are small nonpolar molecules to pass freely through the lipid bilayer.
