Questions

Subject: SAT

TutorMe
Question:

Is it worth it to guess on an SAT question?

Inactive
William S.
Answer:

Absolutely. Prior to 2016, there used to be a 0.25 point penalty for incorrect guesses, and a large part of SAT prep strategy focused on knowing when to guess on a question and when to simply skip one if the answer is too tough. Now that the penalty has been removed, it is important to never leave a question blank, even if you are unable to eliminate enough choices for a "best guess."

Question:

How is writing a college admissions essay different from the kinds of essays you might write in a classroom setting?

Inactive

Answer:

For college admissions, it is truly important for you to be able to tell the story of yourself, and thus the writing style will likely be much different than you are used to writing for your teachers. You might write less formally, you might write about one particular event or moment in your life, or you might focus on what your future goals and dreams are. In any case, it is important to make sure that the story of "you" and why you want to attend college has a clear beginning, middle, and end.
