What makes a quality piece of writing?
Good writing is equal parts magic and structure. The structure is critical. Grammar, purpose, continuity, focus--these are the necessary bones to ensure the message is clear and the reader understands the writers intent. However, stereo instructions have great structure--and yet, stereo instructions have never made the New York Times best sellers list. That is where the magic comes in. The magic is what entices readers, surprises them, and keeps them reading. The magic is word choice, cleverness, and the writer's voice. A balance of both bones and magic is necessary to create a quality piece of writing.
In Edgar Allen Poe's poem, "The Raven"--what might the raven symbolize?
The raven symbolizes death, loss, and loneliness for the speaker's lost love Lenore.
Describe the ideal classroom for teaching reading instruction. Be sure to include a complete description of all of the best practice components of quality reading instruction.
Best practices of reading instruction include phonics , vocabulary , phonological awareness, fluency, and comprehension. The idea classroom would be a print rich environment where students have access to many books. Students would be instructed how to choose just right books on their level, and they would have many opportunities to read, talk, and interact with these books. Students in the ideal reading classroom would not only be reading books on their level, they would be listening to books read aloud. They would also be instructed in explicit lessons how to interact with texts--and then have ample opportunity to practice reading with varied levels of support from the teacher.
