Questions

Subject: Dutch

Question:

What is the most difficult thing about the Dutch language?

Answer:

What about... Everything? I'm a native speaker so it only comes natural to me, but I'm sure we'll have to start with the basics. The most difficult thing might be Dutch grammar. Very many Dutch people do not even grasp it themselves. So you better get ready, but I'm sure it'll be fun.

Subject: Writing

Question:

What is something a tutor shouldn't forget when teaching writing?

Answer:

Students can often improve many things about their writing. One of the main things I keep in mind, is to make sure the students only receive a few comments each time. At the start of our tutoring sessions, I won't be removing many grammar mistakes, but instead will focus on overall improvements you can work on. In this way, the learner will stay motivated instead of having to face hundreds of smaller comments each time.

Answer:

That motivation is always the key to learning English (or in fact: any) second language. Motivation is the key predictor of language-learning success.
