Question:

Compare and contrast mitosis and meiosis in terms of DNA replication, number of divisions, and number of daughter cells

Answer:

In mitosis, DNA replication occurs during interphase before mitosis begins. Similarly, DNA replication occurs in meiosis during interphase before meiosis I begins. Number of divisions differs between the two with mitosis having one and meiosis having two. Finally, the number of daughter cells in mitosis are two with each being diploid (2n) while meiosis has four with each being haploid (n).

Question:

Solve for x in the given equation: 3|x+4| = 15

Inactive

Answer:

To solve for x given an absolute value equation we must first isolate the absolute value. In this equation, we must divide both sides by 3 giving us |x+4| = 5. Now, we set up two equations since |-5| is also equal to |5|. Our first equation gives us x+4 = 5 and our second equation becomes x+4 = -5. To solve, we subtract 4 from both sides in each equation leaving us with two possible values, x = 1 and x = -9.
