The first major paradigm is Realism, which essentially relies on the belief that the international system is anarchic and that states act in their own self-interests. The second major paradigm is Liberalism, which believes that international cooperation is in the interest of state actors and that international organizations can exist to foster trust and cooperation. The third major paradigm is constructivism, which essentially revolves around the concept that persuasive ideas and norms mainly shape the international system (as opposed to military strength or economic capacity)
When should I use "affect" and when should I use "effect"?
This can be a tricky thing to remember when you're churning out your essay. One easy way to remember is like this: Affect is the Action. If you remember that the A means "action," then you can remember that affect is a verb. Once you know that affect is the "action", then effect must be the "thing", or the noun!
