Questions
Subject: Study Skills
Why is it important to have structured and managed Study Skills?
The answer is simple: Cramming doesn't work, at least not if you want to actually learn. The process of cramming is part-and-parcel of the process for short term memory and, has been shown to decrease the level of understanding and knowledge in students. When a structured and rigorous study habit for each subject is formed (not necessarily the same across the board), students not only perform better on quizzes, they do much better on standardized tests, long term curriculum and subject goals, e.g.:Algebra I => Algebra II => Calculus => Pre-Calculus, etc. Not all study systems are the same, just as not all students are the same.
Subject: Religious Studies
How important is the study of Religion?
Through the exploration of the World's religions, we can better understand how peoples' faiths throughout history, and in contemporary societies, have shaped our historical narrative, continue to influence law, societal norms and, ultimately, we can gain a deeper understanding of our own core beliefs.
Subject: Philosophy
What good is Philosophy in contemporary society when we have more information available to us at the swipe of a finger than all of human history combined?
The study of, and pursuit of Philosophy, even at the most basic level, might very well be the best means by which a mind may discipline itself enough to sort through the sea of information within which our current world culture is drowning.
