What is the difference between original cataloging and copy cataloging?
Original cataloging is when a library creates a bibliographic record for an item in their collection. A library might choose to originally catalog an item when they do not have access to OCLC, no other library has created a record that can be copied, or if it is an item that is exclusive to the library in question (for example, a viewing room television remote). Copy cataloging is when a library downloads a bibliographic record that has been created by another library and placed into OCLC. This can be a much quicker method of cataloging, as another library has already done the work.
Which branch of the federal government can veto legislation?
The President, as head of the executive branch, can veto legislation. However, Congress can override a presidential veto if they have at least a 2/3 majority vote in both the House and the Senate.
How do I know when to use affect and when to use effect?
Affect is a verb meaning to influence or to have an effect on something. For example: His tears affected me more than I expected. Effect is usually a noun meaning a result or outcome of a particular action. For example: His tears had a significant effect on me. Effect can also be a verb meaning to cause or bring about something. For example: His tears effected an emotional response within me.
