Question:

Are all executive orders as damaging to the American people as Japanese interment?

Sarah S.
Answer:

Throughout American history there have been a wide range of executive orders created in response to the issues facing Americans of the era. Executive Order 9066 caused Japanese Americans to be taken from their homes and forced into interment camps for two years. Several decades later the American government paid reparations to families involved in the interment camps in recognition of that tragic moment in American history. However not all executive orders have damaged American peoples' well being. Some of the greatest moments of the nation's history are lined with executive orders to guide their way. The Emancipation Proclamation, desegregation of Little Rock, and desegregation of the Armed Forces all stemmed from presidents creating executive orders. Even the New Deal, which lifted America out of the Great Depression came from Franklin D. Roosevelt creating the WPA so American could find jobs.
