Question:

I've applied for many jobs lately for which I know I am highly qualified. How can I update my resume to appear more appealing to potential employers?

Answer:

Your resume should help paint a picture for recruiters, allowing them to envision you in the role for which you are applying. One of the biggest mistakes applicants make is submitting the same, generic resume for every job for which they apply. I recommend creating a special resume for each industry of interest and taking the time to carefully modify these resumes according to the job descriptions for which you are applying. This can be hard work, but this helps a ton when you consider the fact that Applicant Tracking Systems/Software (ATS) is now commonly used to filter out resumes that lack key words and the appropriate years of experience according to the job description. Oftentimes, resumes aren't seen by human eyes, allowing applicants to move forward in the hiring process because they don't pass the initial assessment by the company's ATS. This is so important in today's job market where there are hundreds of applicants applying for the same position thanks to the accessibility of listings online. I can work with you to identify your unique skills, accomplishments, and qualifications relevant to your desired, career opportunity. Select me as your tutor today.

Question:

How can I achieve APA Format?

Answer:

APA format is an academic and professional writing standard with LOTS of rules that aid readers due to its uniformity. It makes it easier for readers to find your source materials and further their learning on the subject of your writing. Though it can feel like a meticulous process, achieving APA Format is easier than even thanks to technology. The easiest way to achieve APA is to utilize the templates provided within Microsoft Word. This template simplifies page setup regarding cover pages, running heads, page numbers, and headers. It even takes the hassle out of generating sources, automating this process for you, and removing the need to memorize which source types are italicized, underlines, etc. If you want to learn more and develop your writing skills, select me as your tutor.

Question:

What is Michel Foucault's Panopticon?

Inactive

Answer:

Michel Foucault described the panopticon in the context of prisons where a watch tower is placed in a central location, allowing guards to maintain surveillance over prisoners at any moment in a time due to their vantage point and eminent presence. Those within the watch tower can see every angle and all of the activity occurring outside, but those outside are unable to see within the tower. This can be made possible by an overpowering source of light or even the use of one-way mirrors. This subjects prisoners to behave as if they are under constant surveillance, even when the watch tower is empty. The structure itself acts as a threat to their privacy. You can read more about the Panopticon and Michel Foucault's philosophy within his book, "Discipline and Punish," where he gives an in-depth history of the prison system in the US and more theories to provide additional context.
